Vitiligo is a condition of the skin which results from the loss of pigment in 1-2% of the population worldwide. It causes a lot of social, psychological and occassionally professional/economic problems.
This day is aimed at creating an awareness among the people about this condition globally and is dedicated to all the people living with Vitiligo globally. The choice of 25 June as the Vitiligo awareness day was done to commemorate the death anniversary of popular music and dance artist Michael Jackson who suffered from Vitilgo throughout his life and passed away on 25 June 2009.
The Vitiligo Research Foundation and other similar organisations aim to raise awareness about this condition globally. They have also requested the United Nations tp designate 25 June as World Vitiligo Day and observe it in all their Member States every year.
